The Golf Ball Side Hustle – Introduction

Hello! My name is Phil Liaboe and in this blog I will be explaining how you can create some profit, get a little exercise, have some fun meeting other folks and enjoy a shared family activity selling used golf balls.

You do NOT need to be a golfer or know anything about golf to be successful. You do NOT need any startup captial. You will need a little space and a few supplies which I will explain in this blog. Most of what I use are items already in the house or stuff I was previously throwing away or recycling. Now it’s repurposed, which is even better!

I am a one person out-fit. There is no scuba gear for diving in water hazards or industrial level golf ball washing machines in my little side hustle. I am happy keeping this small, for now. There is not a ton of money in this. There is enough to keep it fun. That’s OK. You may want to make this bigger once you get the hang of it. It is something I have thought of because it would be pretty easy to do.

I will take you through a step by step process of what I do. Although I have been at this for several years I would never suggest that my process is the only way to go about this. One of the really fun things about this for me is that I can decide what I am going to and how I am going to do this. You may find a method or process that suits you better for any of these steps. Pretty regularly I discover a tweak or change to what I am doing in this little endeavor that makes me stop and think – “I should have made this change a long time ago”. One benefit to you is that you can learn from me. I have no doubt that I will be able to learn from you.

As I go through this I will explain in as much detail as seems reasonable what I do in each step. The steps I break this down into are as follows:

  1. Golf Ball Basics – For anyone not familiar with golf balls I will provide insights that become important in this process including brands, models, construction, markings and used golf ball grading.
  2. Building Your Inventory – For those who golf, I will describe what I do to find golf balls when I play. More importantly, I will also tell you how to build inventory using all sorts of creative methods that you never would have dreamed possible. The fact is that people all around you have buckets and buckets of golf balls they don’t know what to do with. I can help you find them and acquire them with little effort or expense. I will also go through some important safety tips.
  3. Preparing the Golf Balls – From sorting the balls to different types of cleaning methods I will describe my entire methodology, that has been honed and improved over the years.
  4. Marketing and Selling the Balls – Here I will go into the pluses and minuses of a variety of marketing and selling methods. This is probably the area that I have changed and improved the most as the years have gone by. There are many options and channels to selling the balls.

I look forward to helping anyone who wants to pursue this. If would like to have this information in one place, I have written a book entitled The Golf Side Hustle – A Blueprint For Fun Profit and Exercise With Found Golf Balls.- by Phil Liaboe. You can buy a paperback hardcopy, or use a kindle and there is also an audio version available.

This is my first attempt at a Blog, so please bear with me. I am learning. I will try to do my best. Enjoy!
